Academic Background and Initial Career Path

My academic journey commenced at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), where I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry. The rigorous curriculum at HKU provided a comprehensive understanding of molecular biology, genetics, and biochemical processes. The program emphasized both theoretical knowledge and practical laboratory skills, equipping me with a robust foundation in the life sciences.

During my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to engage in several significant research projects. One notable project involved investigating enzyme kinetics and their role in metabolic pathways. This hands-on experience not only honed my critical thinking and analytical skills but also sparked a profound interest in molecular interactions and biochemical mechanisms. Upon graduating from HKU, I embarked on my professional career as a Sales and Marketing Manager at Goodwin Health Care. This role marked a pivotal transition from academic research to the application of scientific knowledge in a commercial setting. My responsibilities included developing marketing strategies for the company’s healthcare products, conducting market research, and building relationships with key stakeholders.

In this position, I acquired a diverse skill set that extended beyond the laboratory. I learned to navigate the complexities of the healthcare market, leveraging my biochemistry background to communicate technical information effectively to a non-scientific audience. This role also enhanced my project management and leadership abilities, as I was responsible for coordinating cross-functional teams and driving product launches.

Proficiency in programming languages like Python became a cornerstone of my expertise, enabling me to manipulate and analyze large datasets efficiently. Currently, I am pursuing a master’s degree in genomics and bioinformatics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The program’s interdisciplinary approach is enriching my understanding of genomics, further enhancing my ability to tackle complex biological problems through bioinformatics.

Outside of my academic pursuits, I enjoy coding in Python, which has become both a professional tool and a personal hobby. Additionally, I have a passion for photography and video creation, activities that allow me to explore and document the beauty of the natural world. These hobbies not only provide a creative outlet but also complement my scientific endeavors by honing my attention to detail and storytelling skills.
